Mission:
The Staff Accountant - Accounts Payable will serve as a key operational finance partner to the Accounting team and cross-functional stakeholders. This role will focus on ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing of vendor payments while supporting Groq's rapid growth through efficient accounts payable operations and strong vendor relationships.
Responsibilities & opportunities in this role:
Accounts Payable Operations and Close – Ensuring Accuracy & Efficiency
  • Manage end-to-end accounts payable processes, including invoice processing, approval workflows, and payment execution
  • Review and validate invoices for accuracy, proper approvals, and compliance with company policies and purchase orders
  • Process vendor payments via ACH, wire transfers, and checks while maintaining appropriate controls and documentation
  • Maintain vendor master data, including setup of new vendors, tax forms collection (W-9s, W-8s), and profile updates
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Support month-end close activities including prepaids, fixed assets, accruals, cut-off procedures, and variance analysis
  • Keep vendor records up to date and file annual vendor 1099s with the IRS
Vendor Management & Relationships
  • Serve as primary point of contact for vendor inquiries regarding payment status, account setup, and payment terms
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key vendors to support business operations
  • Negotiate payment terms and resolve payment disputes to optimize cash flow and vendor satisfaction
  • Coordinate with Procurement and Operations teams on vendor onboarding and contract compliance
Process Improvement & Controls
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounts payable processes and implement automation where appropriate
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, SOX requirements, and audit procedures
  • Support implementation and optimization of AP systems and tools
  • Develop and maintain accounts payable policies and procedures documentation
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests related to accounts payable
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Procurement, Operations, and other departments to ensure proper purchase order matching and receipt confirmation
  • Collaborate with Tax team on vendor 1099 reporting and sales tax compliance
  • Support Treasury team with cash flow forecasting and payment scheduling
  • Work with FP&A team on expense analysis and vendor spend reporting
Ideal candidates have/are:
  • 3-7 years of experience in accounts payable, with preference for high-growth technology companies
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred but not required
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable processes, internal controls, and GAAP
  • Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) and AP automation tools; administrator experience with Zip strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in Excel and financial analysis
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication skills for vendor and internal stakeholder interactions
  • Experience with SOX compliance and external audit support preferred
  • Knowledge of sales tax, 1099 reporting, and international payments a plus

Compensation:
At Groq, a competitive base salary is part of our comprehensive compensation package, which includes equity and benefits. For this role, the base salary range is $X to $Y, determined by your skills, qualifications, experience and internal benchmarks.
