Senior Employment Counsel (Part Time)
Mission:
Groq is seeking an experienced Employment Counsel to serve as the primary legal advisor on all aspects of global employment law. This individual will be responsible for managing workforce risk and enabling strategic workforce planning as Groq continues to expand globally. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, curious learner, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Responsibilities & opportunities in this role:
  • Advise on a broad range of employment issues across multiple jurisdictions, including HR policies, employee relations and investigations, employee mobility, discrimination and retaliation, recruiting, exits, leaves and reasonable accommodations, and employee data privacy , ensuring that business practices meet local legal standards
  • Draft, review, and update employment contracts, independent contractor agreements, and related documents for cross-border employment relationships
  • Advise on compensation-related matters, including compensation design proposals, commission plans, compliance with pay transparency laws, wage and hour issues, and leveling and job architecture matters.
  • Support global workforce planning in collaboration with Talent and executive leadership, assessing legal risks and structuring workforce arrangements to enable business agility
  • Monitor and interpret changes in labor laws; communicate legal updates and provide proactive guidance to the Talent team, managers, and senior management
  • Support resolution of employment disputes, including mediation and negotiation
  • Develop and deliver internal training on employment law compliance and global HR policies
  • Manage and supervise outside counsel on all types of employment matters
  • Advise on matters arising out of the development and use of AI technology in recruiting/hiring, compliance, and other employment processes.
Ideal candidates have/are:
  • At least 5 years of in-house employment legal experience in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, in addition to 3+ years of law firm experience and training
  • Experience with and knowledge of global labor laws, employment standards, and remote/hybrid workforce legal frameworks
  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex employment contracts and HR policies
  • Proven ability to think critically and strategically, understanding the company's business goals and objectives, and developing legal strategies to support those goals.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced environment with limited direction and at times imperfect information, balance competing priorities, and manage several time-sensitive projects at once.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution
Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law.

Compensation: At Groq, a competitive base salary is part of our comprehensive compensation package, which includes equity and benefits. For this role, the base salary range is $207,740 to $281,100, determined by your skills, qualifications, experience and internal benchmarks.
