Mission
We are seeking a strategic, results-driven Head of Global Tax to lead and scale our global tax function. This role will be responsible for overseeing tax planning, compliance, reporting, transfer pricing, and audit management across all jurisdictions. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team, drive operational excellence, and ensure global tax readiness as the company expands internationally and prepares for public company compliance.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Leadership
  • Define and lead Groq’s global tax strategy aligned with business and financial goals.
  • Act as the principal tax advisor to senior leadership, including the CFO, VP Finance, and CLO.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Legal, FP&A, Treasury, and Corporate Development to advise on global business initiatives and transactions.
Tax Provision & Financial Reporting
  • Lead the global quarterly and annual income tax provision processes in accordance with ASC 740.
  • Manage uncertain tax positions, valuation allowances, and tax impacts of equity compensation and M&A.
  • Ensure accuracy of tax-related financial disclosures and compliance with SOX 404 requirements.
Tax Compliance & Operations
  • Oversee global tax compliance including U.S. federal, state, and international filings.
  • Drive continuous improvement and standardization of tax processes, controls, and documentation.
  • Monitor and address regulatory changes, including Pillar Two, OECD BEPS, OB3, and local law updates.
Transfer Pricing & Intercompany Policy
  • Own the global transfer pricing policy and documentation strategy.
  • Mitigate TP risks across IP owners, development hubs, and distribution entities.
  • Ensure consistent DEMPE analysis and intercompany service pricing compliance.
Audit & Risk Management
  • Manage global tax audits, tax authority interactions, and documentation of tax positions.
  • Evaluate and enhance tax governance and internal control frameworks.
  • Lead tax due diligence and structuring for M&A, including integration planning.
Team Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the tax team, fostering a culture of performance and accountability.
  • Assess resourcing needs and drive strategic hiring to support scale.
  • Collaborate effectively with existing tax leadership to ensure cohesion and alignment.
Ideal Candidates Have:
  • 15+ years of progressive tax experience including global leadership in a multinational corporation.
  • Deep technical knowledge of U.S. federal, international, and indirect tax law.
  • Strong ASC 740 expertise and experience with SOX 404-compliant environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading global tax audits, M&A integration, and transfer pricing strategy.
  • Proven leadership, people development, and cross-functional communication skills.
What Success Looks Like
30 Days
  • Complete comprehensive assessment of current tax position and compliance status
  • Establish relationships with key internal stakeholders and external tax advisors
  • Review and understand existing tax processes, systems, and documentation
  • Identify immediate compliance gaps or risks requiring attention
  • Present initial findings and recommendations to CFO and leadership team
6 Months
  • Implement robust tax compliance processes for all current jurisdictions
  • Establish quarterly tax provision process with appropriate controls and documentation
  • Complete tax planning analysis for current year and develop strategies for upcoming fiscal year
  • Build relationships with tax authorities and resolve any outstanding compliance issues
  • Begin recruitment process for additional team members as needed
  • Implement tax technology solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy
12 Months
  • Successfully support at least one major business initiative (fundraising, M&A, or expansion) from a tax perspective
  • Establish comprehensive global tax strategy supporting 3-5 year business plan
  • Build and lead expanded tax team with clear roles and responsibilities
  • Implement advanced tax planning strategies resulting in measurable tax efficiencies
  • Achieve clean tax compliance record across all jurisdictions
  • Establish Groq as a model for tax excellence among peer companies

Compensation:
At Groq, a competitive base salary is part of our comprehensive compensation package, which includes equity and benefits. For this role, the base salary range is $274,176 to $370,944, determined by your skills, qualifications, experience and internal benchmarks.
