Assistant Controller
Mission:
We are seeking an Assistant Controller to own and optimize our core accounting operations as we scale rapidly. This role requires expertise in financial reporting, month-end close processes, and accounting systems to ensure accurate and timely financial information. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader who can build scalable processes while maintaining precision in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Responsibilities & opportunities in this role:
Financial Reporting & Close Management
  • Lead and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, operational discipline, continuous improvement, and timeline compression
  • Oversee Fixed Assets accounting, including capitalization, depreciation methodologies, asset tracking, and alignment with operational stakeholders
  • Oversee Lease Accounting under ASC 842, covering new lease evaluations, modifications, embedded leases, and ongoing compliance
  • Manage Inventory Accounting, including valuation, reserves, and coordination with supply chain and operations teams
  • Oversee Accounts Payable processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and strong internal controls
  • Oversee all additional General Ledger areas, ensuring end-to-end integrity of accounting operations and compliance with U.S. GAAP
  • Oversee international month-end/quarter-end/year-end close, including review of subsidiary financials, multi-currency/FX accounting, intercompany eliminations, and consolidation entries to ensure accurate GAAP/IFRS reporting
  • Support audits and statutory compliance by preparing required documentation and ensuring international entities meet all financial reporting standards
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and supporting schedules for management and external reporting
  • Lead balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all accounts are properly supported, documented, and reviewed
  • Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders to gather information, resolve accounting issues, and drive operational alignment.
  • Support external audits, managing auditor requests, documentation, and the resolution of issues.
Accounting Operations & Process Improvement
  • Oversee general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and account analysis across all business functions and entities
  • Design and implement scalable accounting processes and controls to support rapid business growth
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies across all transactions
Systems & Automation
  • Drive accounting system optimization and automation initiatives to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Lead implementation of new accounting technologies and process improvements
  • Develop and maintain financial reporting dashboards and analytical tools
  • Support NetSuite enhancements and integrations with other business applications
  • Create standardized templates and procedures for consistent accounting treatment
Team Leadership & Development
  • Manage and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance on complex accounting matters
  • Build accounting team capabilities through training, process documentation, and skills development
  • Lead special projects including system implementations, policy updates, and process redesigns
  • Collaborate with Finance leadership on strategic initiatives and operational improvements
  • Foster culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence
Ideal candidates have/are:
  • CPA with 12+ years of progressive accounting experience in high-growth technology companies
  • Strong expertise in US GAAP, financial reporting, and month-end close processes
  • Proven track record managing accounting operations for companies with complex business models
  • Experience with NetSuite and accounting close and automation tools
  • Demonstrated ability to build and scale accounting processes in rapid growth environments
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Leadership experience with direct reports and cross-functional team management
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in AI/ML, cloud infrastructure, SaaS, or technology hardware companies
  • Background with international accounting and multi-entity consolidations
  • Experience supporting external audits and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial reporting tools
  • Project management experience with system implementations or process improvements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; Master's degree preferred

Compensation: At Groq, a competitive base salary is part of our comprehensive compensation package, which includes equity and benefits. For this role, the base salary range is $271,000 to $318,800, determined by your location, skills, qualifications, experience and internal benchmarks. This range is specific to roles in the United States, compensation for candidates outside the USA will be dependent on the local market.
