Loft Orbital builds “shareable” satellites, providing a fast & simple path to orbit for organizations that require access to space. Powered by our hardware & software products, we operate satellites, fly customer payloads onboard, and handle entire missions from end to end - significantly reducing the lead-time and risk of a traditional space mission.
The Flight Software team is responsible for creating the core software between the Payloads collecting the data and the Bus controlling our satellites. The team covers the framework for services, communication interface and data management. They work in a Linux environment. We build the bricks that enable Loft to customize the satellite configuration while guarantying standardization of the space infrastructure.
As the Technical Program Manager for the Flight Software team, you will help to streamline the development and tracking of the schedules within the team and with other stakeholders at Loft, from Systems Engineering to Qualification and Integration in our satellite. You will work with Loft Orbital’s engineering, embedded systems, mission specific software and mission management teams. Finally, we are growing, you will help the team to work more efficiently by creating light weight processes or improve the processes already in place.

About This Role:

  • Create the detailed schedule for each releases of our software while working along with the team manager. It requires alignment with several other teams in the company
  • Communicate the schedule across the company
  • Lead the team along with the technical manager to stay on track with the schedule. One activity is for example to lead the scrum planning activity to achieve the objectives of the schedule
  • Lead discussions to reach the best compromises when there is change of direction or new information impacting the schedule
  • Create and maintain the mid-term roadmap for our program to guaranty good coordination cross-functionally
  • Improve the team efficiency by identifying inefficiency and create light weight processes to address these inefficiencies or improve the processes already in place
  • Lead the creation of team Quarterly planning: managing requests from other teams and the items from our roadmaps, get estimation for work packages, create a plan, get approval and then spread the information across relevant stakeholders

Must Haves:

  • Software engineering background, space based is a plus but not required
  • Have experience with the intersection of hardware and software - it is important to success in this role, while reducing the time-to-orbit for our customers
  • Launched a product to market that has both a hardware and software aspect (ex: embedded ECU in a satellite, a plane or a vehicle)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • Able to transcribe process from implicit to explicit
  • High proficiency in tools like JIRA/ Confluence etc
  • Ok to travel in the US (we have two offices in the US: San Francisco,CA and Golden, CO) and France for a week at least once per quarter
  • 5 years of experience

Nice to Haves:

  • Linux experience
  • Electrical engineering background, space based is a plus but not required
  • Automotive background or Space background
  • International experience
