What Stark needs

Hey there! We’re looking for a Full-Stack Engineer (Senior) that can use their understanding of web technologies to build out a suite of tools for Stark customers—from Mac and web applications for customers to community tools. Using your knowledge of web technologies, you'd spearhead efforts that focus on performance and inclusivity—in turn ensuring it's easily accessible and usable by everyone. We’ll look to you to provide deep insight into how we build out our new suite of tools with a focus on architecting the APIs that will power them.
We believe the world is better when everyone has the ability to navigate it. As a team of 18 scattered across 6 countries, the thread that holds us together is our collective eagerness to learn from and teach each other with the wonderful values from our different walks of life. We need someone that can teach us and our customers, and are equally as eager to learn from others on the team as part of a quality-driven organization.

What you'll find yourself doing

👾 Writing back- to front-end code that is reliable, robust, and reusable.
⭐️ Build out services that will work across our Mac and Web platforms.
🧠 Work with the team to brainstorm, iron out, and implement new solutions.
🚀 Launch experiments and work to improve current solutions.
🐛 Assist in triaging bugs and usability issues to fix issues in production.
🔍 Review code and get your code reviewed by others on the team.
🛠 Assist in scaling up a world-class accessibility product with a passionate team.

Qualifications

We don't look at degrees. We think it's fantastic you have one, but we don't use it to evaluate. Preferred candidates are product-minded, have experience with accessibility and/or compliance, and are excited about this space. So if you don't think you qualify based on 100% of what's below? Don't sweat it. Reach out anyway, please!

Your technical skills

You have the coding fundamentals down, and a track record of high quality engineering.
Web based backends and databases (Node.JS, Express, PostgreSQL).
Experience writing API’s that are highly performant, well-documented, and thoroughly tested.
Experience with building a cloud-based backend system that’s performant and easy to maintain.
Experience with front-end technologies (React, Typescript, CSS, HTML).
Understanding of the Git workflow, including pull requests, code reviews, CI/CD systems, and are able to write front-end/back-end integration tests.
You've built and shipped large-scale web apps and sites that are responsive, accessible and performant.
You can hold the ambiguity that comes with projects and scope your way to solutions.
You’re able to understand and participate in product decisions correlated to business goals.
Bonus Points: You’re a maker, and have jammed on side-projects.
Bonus Points: Use of emoji and solid humor. 🐳 (We have a whale of a time here!)

Your core skills

Ability to communicate clearly and collaboratively in the method most comfortable and possible for you.
You care about the impact your work has on the customer’s experience.
You’re coachable. You know that even with everything you know, there’s always more ways to learn and grow.
You hack away at projects in the pipeline to get proof-of-concepts up and running.
You hit the ground running to get to answers quickly, and get excited about getting updates to the user.
Heavy knowledge of the fundamentals of your craft and take a first principles approach.
An inclusive mindset both in building product to helping others on the team learn and grow.
Get as much enjoyment out of working on short- and mid-term projects as you do long-term planning and exploring.
Problem-solving skills. You can’t leave something alone until it’s fixed.
Ability to self-manage when it comes to time, organization, responsibilities, etc.
An active learner's mentality. You’re comfy asking for help and know when it’s time to do so.
