About Greenline

At Greenline, we're dedicated to unlocking mortgage lending for self-employed and non-traditional borrowers.
We’re a small and nimble team that values brains, empathy, and hustle. Our team operates remotely, and we’ll give preference to candidates in the SF Bay Area, Austin, and NYC.
Greenline’s engineers are involved throughout the product lifecycle, from idea generation and design to prototyping and production delivery. You will partner closely with engineering and non-technical teammates to understand our customers' problems and ship solutions accordingly. You’ll have high agency and a strong bias toward action.

Job Description

We’re excited to meet candidates with a broad set of technical skills, who are highly cross-functional and eager to solve a wide range of engineering challenges. Your focus will likely shift based on our strongest customer needs.
Greenline’s backend and infrastructure engineer will build software at scale to transform how lenders and related parties use our platform. Our engineers are involved throughout the product lifecycle, from idea generation, design, prototyping, and production delivery. You’ll regularly be faced with sophisticated technical problems, requiring you to scope out the solution design and find an incremental path to shipping the new features. You will partner closely with technical and non-technical teammates to understand our customers' problems and build solutions accordingly. You’ll work autonomously and make decisions independently within a team that supports and challenges you.

Responsibilities

You will work on projects that span technologies, systems, and processes where you will design, build, test, and ship great code every day. These critical business areas may include:
Core Infrastructure - build the foundational platform for Greenline products and services to allow them to operate at scale. We drive reliability, availability, efficiency, and scalability of these systems.
Application & Revenue Platform - Own an unusual mix of platform, infrastructure, and product problems required for reporting and billing.
Developer Service Infrastructure - Ensure Greenline’s engineers have a reliable, fast, and easy-to-use inner dev loop to maximize productivity while building everything from low-latency microservices to large-scale data pipelines and machine learning models. Enable Greenline’s engineering team to easily write and ship useful services that correctly, reliably, and efficiently leverage platform capabilities.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
Build and maintain serverless functions and background jobs in TypeScript, ensuring clean separation of concerns and test coverage.
Build reliant, performant, and scalable systems for storage, auth, or asset serving to enable other product teams to build robust applications.
Design relational database schemas in Postgres and manage SQL migrations.
Automate the deployment, management, and operations of complex distributed systems across different environments.
Maintain and evolve testing pipelines, Docker builds, and rollout processes for backend services, leveraging blue/green or canary deployments as needed.
Manage and optimize our GitHub CI/CD pipeline, AWS infrastructure, and Vercel deployments for continuous integration and delivery.
Continuously improve our processes, tools, and systems that allow us to scale the code base, productivity, and our team.
Conduct code reviews, pair-program on complex infrastructure changes, and evangelize backend and DevOps standards across the engineering team.
Debug production issues across services and several levels of the stack.
Ensure high availability and performance.
Create and respond to alerts in our observability and error monitoring systems.

Must-Have Skills

Experience managing CI/CD pipelines and multi-environment deployments.
Experience with monorepo tooling, ideally using yarn, npm, or pnpm workspaces.
Proficiency in managing AWS services, including Lambda, CloudWatch, EC2, S3 Bucket, and IAM.
Proficiency in containerization with Docker.
Track record of shipping high-quality products and leading projects at scale.
Experience shipping fast, reliable, real-time applications using modern development tools.
Ability to improvise and develop creative solutions when common approaches fail.
Strong value of pragmatism in times of uncertainty.

Nice-to-Have Skills

Experience with React or NextJS.
Experience with GraphQL.
Proficiency in TypeScript.
